Thinking about the comment below, I recently heard someone state: "The Internet is like a library." (People always have to speak in past metaphors to explain new products). After further reflection, I thought, "No, the Internet is much more dynamic then a *library*, it is more like a **Library Media Center**." >From: Jean Townes <townesj@PEAK.ORG> >Date: Tue, 31 Oct 1995 20:49:25 -0800 >Wonderful as it is the Internet is not the only resource out there. I too get disturbed at hearing people promote it as the only information resource and how if you have it you will never need a library again. I just had a disagreement with a high school teacher who was asserting that in 20 years the whole library of congress collection would be on the Internet. And this past summer in a six week class with other teachers I watched a couple be really excited about the six pictures of crystals they found at one site. Yes, they were neat pictures, yes they could also have been conveniently accessed at home, but even in my very poorly furnished library I have a book with MANY beautiful photographs of crystals. Sometimes the Internet has what you need and sometimes a book works better.... And the future is out there and all may change but I still don't think the WHOLE LC collection is going to ever be digitized....
