Dear LM_NETTERS:

As always, you all came through fast, with flying colors. Here are
the responses I received re: five little pumpkins (and yes, this is
the basic version I had in mind).
Thanks a lot for your prompt responses and I hope you can make use of
these during this Halloween season!
And if I may add my source (incomplete as it it): there is a 1995 edition
of this rhyme illustrated in "beautiful water colors." Unfortunately, I
have limited access to the public library's on line catalog and I can't get
the full information right now. I might post it later if there is interest.
( I thought you'd find the slight variations of the rhyme interesting)

The Raffi Singable Songbook, Crowne Publishers, Inc. ISBN

rhyme.
This book says it is traditional
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
First one said "My its gettin late."
Second one said, "There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "But we don't care."
The fourth on said, "Let's run and run and run."
The fifth one said, "I'm ready for some fun."
"oo oo ," went the wind and out went the light
and the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

There you go! I used it with the Kindergarten today!

Raffi has a song version of Five Little Pumpkins. I think it was on
his
first volume Singable Songs.

The version we have been using in our kindergarten class is:

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate
The first one said "boy it's getting late"
The second one said "there are witches in the air"
The third one said "we don't care"
The fourth one said "let's have some Halloween fun"
The fifth one said "let's run and run"

Then whoosh went the wind and out (clap) went the lights

And the five little pumpkins ran from sight

I once used a pumpkins song with young children. It "chanted " like
this.

5 little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
the first one said, "My it's getting late!"
The second one said, "There are witches in the air!"
The third one said, "But we don't care."
The fourth one said, Let's run, run, run!"
The fifth one said, "It's Halloween fun!!"
Whoosh goes the wind
And out goes the light,
And those 5 little jack o"lanterns rolled out of site."

We used motions for all of the lines. Hope this helps.

Raffi sang the song on his first album "Singable Songs for the Very
Young" (I think that's the album title.) Last line is "000-000 went
the
wind, and out went the light, and the five little pumpkins rolled out
of
sight." Some of his songs have been made into picture books - this
might
be one.

I'm now a secondary librarian, but I remember using something like
this
with elementary students......
Five little jack o'lanterns were sitting on a gate.
The first one said, "My, it's getting late".
The second one said, "Who goes there?"
The third one said, "There are witches in the air".
The fourth one said, "Let's run, let's run."
The fifth one said, "Oh, it's only Halloween fun."
Wooooooo, went the wind and OUT went the lights,
And away went the jack o'lanterns on Halloween night!

I can't believe I remembered it!

I have used a "finger play" at Halloween time with the
Kindergarten classes which goes:
Five little pumpkins, sitting on the gate.
The first one says, "Oh, my, it's getting late."
The second one says, "There are witches in the air."
The third one says, "But I don't care."
The fourth one says, "Let's run and run and run."
The fifth one says, "I'm ready for some fun."

OOOOOOOOOOOO goes the wind and out goes the light,
And the five little pumpkins roll out of sight.

Is this one of them you were thinking of? I don't know the source--I
had heard it as a child--eons ago.
