Hi everyone! I hope you can help me. For years our elementary schools have had a semi- flexible library schedule - we have scheduled classes k-2 and meet with grades 3-6 when needed for curriculum integration, booktalks, etc.- this has never sat well with certain teachers who want a scheduled class. Our Elementary Director has always been a strong advocate for an open library, but now that he is gone this very vocal group has arisen again and have taken it to a committee with a few interesting arguments that some principals really question(mainly I think, because they are new and unfamiliar with an open library). Our library supervisor is very strong, and plans to speak with those principals to convince them of the importance of our program. My goal, and this is where I need your help, is to provide her and me with ammunition from other districts and other librarians. We know how we feel and what our reasons are for this type of library, but I would like to hear what others have to say. I am attempting to get on this committee as a rep from my school, but my school is very happy with our library and the way it is run (I hope:)).
