checking computers out to students

Our school's strategic planning team has a concern about inequalities
which occur when some students have access to a computer in their home
when others do not.  One suggestion for addressing this problem is to
allow students to check out computers from school to use in their homes.
We would like input from other schools which are doing this.  We would
like to know:  (1) What has been the response from students, parents,
staff?  (2)  What problems have you had?  (3)  What policies do you have
regarding the checkout?  (4)  What suggestions do you have that will help
us if we decide to go ahead with this?
