Over thirty people responded to my inquiry concerning whether or not to leave a challenged book on the shelf during the review process. Everyone, but one, said that their policy stipulates that the book remain on the shelf during the review process. Many urged that that procedure be written and included in a district censorship policy. Several said that, ironically, the challenged book usually does not remain on the shelf because members of the review committee need to read it for evaluation. Several copies are usually ordered for review members. Consequently, several copies of the book wound up on the shelf once the review process is completed and the book is allowed to remain on the shelf! A big THANK YOU to all who responded to my request! I continue to be amazed at the support LM_NETTERs give each other. You all are just terrific! -- Mary N.
