This is a response written by a colleague of mine to the question about
which video editing system should be used with seventh graders.

>I would pick a system that could grow with your needs. The JVC Desk Edit
>system would be a good place to start. It's a manual editing (one source
>and one editor) with the potential to go to an A-B roll(for dissolves) or
>be controlled by a computer.
>
>If you go with a computer only based system, it will do much more, but the
>learning curve will be much steeper. For 7th grade once in a while
>projects- that's too much hassle. Any system less than this will probably
>edit to slowly. The Panasonic 1970 system with A96 editor can take minutes
>to pre-roll each edit. Not something I'd want for middleschoolers.
>
>You can always add computers later. Keep in mind their programs aren't
>going to be great masterpieces, but if thay can learn about media literacy
>while completing another class assignment that's great.
>
>Hope this helps.
>Rick Maehl

Hope this helps.
