REF: Arabic (?) Greeting

An English teacher sent a student to the library to ask the meaning of
"Asalamalakim," which she identified as a Muslim (I assume that means
Arabic) greeting.  I couldn't seem to find a source i could read that had
the term.  I said I would be able to find out in a few hours (thinking
"Somebody on LM_NET will know this.")
