A fifth grade teacher is considering using "My Brother Sam is Dead" by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier(1974), and "Thunder on the Tennessee" by G. Clifton Wisler (1983) as trade books for her language arts currriculum. She asked me for my comments on their appropriateness for fifth graders, since a parent had commented to her that "My Brother Sam is Dead" was not suitable for this age level. If anyone has used these books or has a comment on their appropriateness for *fifth* graders, please e-mail me directly.
