Elementary School U.S. History/Government Collection

Help!!  We have limited funds at a private PK-5 school and are currently
weeding an outdated collection.  In the U.S. history/government area, we
need to rebuild entirely from scratch.

Any suggestions for titles and/or series in this subject area that are must
haves?

Also, any biography series you'd suggest would be great!
