A weekago I askedfor suggestions for "discipline" procedures for studentsusing the Internet unlawfully, etc. It appears that there are more of us asking for answers than having the answers. But here are the replies I did receive. I apologize for not keeping careful track of the librarians who wrote me. This is new to me and I promise to get sharper! Peggy Rabideau, Sylvania Schools, sy_mcr @mavca.ohio.gov One librarian reports a well thought out series of procedures: First Offense: Stern warning. Write down the student name in a book. Second offense: Council/warn student. INFORM PARENT. Third offense: Suspend student for one - five days. Charge: Defiance of authority. No computer privileges for remainder of present quarter and next quarter. Fourth offense: Suspend for 3 - 5 days. Charge: Defiance of authority. No LIBRARY privileges without the teacher present. Another librarian emphasizes that our actions must be ethical, efficient, legal. Random checks are necessary (another job to do). My own thoughts: Maybe the less said, the better. Once the signed user agreement is on file, the student should not want to lose his/her privileges. This is exciting new research; they should want to be a part of it. Thanks again for the replies I received. Our jobs have to be the bst in the school system right now!
