GEN: Notebook checkout

     We are currently revising the technology plan for our middle school,
and we are exploring the possibility of having notebooks hooked into a
LAN during the day and allowing them to be unplugged and checked out at
the end of the school day.  Has anyone tried this?  If so, how do you
like the system--what are the advantages and disadvantages?
     We're also interested in feedback on checking out the notebooks to
students.  What type of policy do you have regarding this?  How do you
hold the students (and faculty) accountable?  Do you have some type of
agreement that must be signed?
     Any, and all, information you can share will be greatly appreciated.
