At Glenridge Elementray School, the physical education teacher and the library media specialist are teaming up so that our students can learn more about the 1996 Summer Olympics being held in Atlanta,GA. The fifth graders are in charge of collecting info and sharing it with the whole school. One component of this collaboration is to "simulate" the whole school walking to the Olympics. The whole school walks 2 miles on Fitness Fridays, walks are taken in physical education classes, there are class walks with teachers, etc. These miles are counted and charted on a huge map in the Library Technology Center. We would like to receive greetings from schools along the interstates as we walk through each state. At the present time we are walking through Illinois and would appreciate greetings from any of the towns along I57, I64 and I24, especially these "rest stops"- Mt. Vernon, Marion, and Metropolis. When you respond, please answer the following questions: 1. Your name, student or teacher, grade? 2. Name of your school and town. 3. Favorite summer Olympic sport. 4. Favorite book. 5. Local historical sites to see 6. Anything else you would like to share with us.
