African-American Inventors - Elem.?

Each Feb. my sixth grade teachers provide their students with
a list of names of Af. American inventors.  Assignment is to
find what person invented, and bio. data.  for a 2 page report.
   Most of the inventors are pretty obscure.  The source is a
poster listing inventors.  I have telephoned an orgainzation
which provided the poster; I receive only recorded "I'm out"
messages.
   Do any of you have any sources you would recommend for
addition to my collection to meet the needs of this assignment?
