I have been following the thread of librarian titles. Our district has a new technology plan and withing the plan it says "The Media Specialist position will be upgraded to Information Specialist". The teachers were asked to fill out a survery showing agreement or disagreement with the focus and details of the plan. I talked with one teacher who had marked that each school should have 2 full time media technicians and .5 Information Specialist. When I asked why she indicated that she was confused and through that media technician was the "librarian" and Information Specialist was something on computer troubleshooting. For my two cents worth, I prefer librarian. Everyone knows what that means, the other titles just confuse everyone. We don't need confusion right now, we need to focus on what libraries need.
