Target: Elem. Beg. Year Ideas

Hi all,
This will be my first year as a media specialist and I would like to know
how you start your year with the students- orientation ideas, good
beginning of school books you read, number of books you allow students to
check out - any info/tips that would help me out - I'll take all the
advice you're willing to give.  I've only posted once before and the
responses were wonderful.  Thanks so much for your help!
