I, too, suffer from this same frustration. It doesn't seem to matter how 'good' a tape recorder you get, the insides are still fragile and won't hold up the the use (and mis-use) that this age children give it...a lot of it depends on how the individual classroom teacher sets the stage for usage on it also. I have never done much with equipment with the kids when the classes come to the library, but perhaps this should be approached there also. I don't have the time to actually have centers for the kids so I have ignored this... I purchase headphones as cheaply as possible and consider them 'throwaways" (they are not worth the time and energy to fix...) I do put the date sent out on the earpiece and try to keep track of who, how many, etc on a notepad, so I can hopefully tell if there is misuse there...those little wires just won't hold up to busy hands, though! *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Barb Engvall Library Media Specialist Washington Library Media Association John Campbell Elem.
