I am currently a librarian in a 6-12 school. We are building a 9-12 school and the junior high is moving into my building. I will go to the new high school and there will be a new librarian at my current location. My question is: How much do you think it will cost to put books in the new Library Media Center. Also equipment, software, and periodicals? My superintendent called me with this question and gave my four or five days to come up with an answer. I am currently working my way through Senior High School Library Catalog. I will be able to take some books with me but I will be leaving most of them for the junior high. I am lucky to have a research oriented faculty in both schools so they are used to the best that I can afford. I feel that the superintendent will add to the bond issue whatever amount I tell him that I want. I will have a totally automated environment. Three computers designated for card catalog, five for reference, and one for circulation. There will be a thirty person computer lab in the back of the library for writing purposes. I am hoping to order a magazine database. Which one do I select and how much do they cost? I have information from EBSCO. But I can't find the others. BTW, the school is being designed for up to 600 students. We have 400 now. It is expected to rise. We live in rural West Tennessee. Thanks for any help in this. I feel better just asking some professionals.
