Very many people asked me for info regarding the pre-search worksheet I have students use before they go to the Internet for research. As I stated in both my article in the Jan. Technology Connection and on LM_NET I adapt the DIALOG worksheet. For those of you who do not have access to this sheet, the following info is asked for: Topic (this is the student's request for info, preferably in the form of a question). Important Ideas (any further info the student might be interested in, or specifics to narrow their search) Concepts (using Boolean connectors) are basically keywords that they will use if they need to use a search engine. I request that they have three keywords. Databases (Websites) They can find these in a notebook I have created which is arranged alphabetically by subject, or they may already know of one that is appropriate to their topic, or they should indicate that they need to do some web crawling. I request that they have two or three sites so that they can immediately go to another one if their first choice is not available or yields no info. I hope this helps. I appreciate all of the interest. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or suggestions for further adaptations to worksheet.
