Sorry -- May 5th is NOT Mexico's independence day -- that is in September.
May 5 celebrates the Mexican victory at the battle of Puebla -- their first
victory and one that showed that they could reasonably expect to win their
independence.
Also, May 5 is much more a Mexican American celebration than a Mexican one.
Little note is given to May 5 in Mexico compared to what is done in the
American southwest.
