Date: Mon, 6 May 1996 17:53:55 -0600 (MDT) From: David V. Loertscher <davidl@csn.net> In reply to Linda Vukson's recent request for support for libraries You might include the following in your presentation to the board of education: Every child in this district deserves to become: a. a competent and avid reader b. a competent user of all forms of technology used in the information society. c. a student schooled in the research and inquiry process: to be able to find, locate, evaluate, use, create, and communicate information. d. an engaged learner in an information rich environment. The sophistication of the information society requires the guidance of an experienced professional. We would not trust our health care needs to the janitor in the hospital. Neither should we trust that our students would receive help in this new world from a clerical, a technician, or worse, from no one at all. -------------------------------------------------------------- David V.
