Dear Group, This may be coming from my weariness (9 research classes yesterday in a 7 period day), but I'm interested in how others handle the use of electronic resources when classes are researching. I have only two CD ROM stations (one with a magazine database and the other an encyclopedia). I use sign-up sheets to discourage students from "waiting" in line to use the computers. BUT I am still faced with students who sit at tables and chat waiting for their turn at the computer. Yes, both the teacher(s) and I actively work with students suggesting other print sources to wisely use time, but one would think we were loco (from the looks we get from students). I'm considering a "new rule", 5 facts from other sources before you sign up for an electronic resource. Do you think I am asking for more problems? Of course, I would waive the rule if a topic does not lend itself to our print resources. I can see this problem blooming when we get internet access (since students see the internet as the answer to all questions). I await you professional opinions on how you handle similar situations. -- ******* Linda Slacum, Library Media Specialist Cherry Hill Middle School 2535 Singerly Road, Elkton, MD 21921 lslacum@dol.net (HOME) llslacum@umd5.umd.edu (SCHOOL) *******
