Hi, All! My 8th grade English teacher has asked me to identify something in a line mentioned on pg. 22 of this book. John Holbrook is talking about studying at Harvard to become a minister. He states, "...I was set on college. I finished all the requirements in Latin. I know The Accidence [italicized] almost by heart." Does anyone know what the "Accidence" is? I checked Benet's Reader's Encyclopedia, Encyclopedia American, and Encyclopedia Britannica, but no luck. There was a definition in my unabridged dictionary for accidence with a lower case A (...inflection of words, non-essential qualities or circumstances...) Thanks for your help!
