SEC: To LAN or not to LAN

Dear LM-NETTERS:
Our community recently passed a bond issue which will allow the building
of a new media center at our high school.  One question which will come up
for discussion is the creation of a head end unit in the media center.
How does this group feel about having that type of unit in the media
center?  Some of our teachers have already stated that they want to
continue to have complete control over starting and stopping their videos
rather than having a central location.  I need to know the disadvantages
and advantages of providing this type of service and housing this type of
hardware in the media center.  I am completely "green" in this area.
