Dear Group Thanks a million for all the ideas you shared about using the library. I tried responding to each of you but if I missed anyone, my thanks. Here is a list of ideas that you, too, can share with teachers: Use state and world maps and stick pins to identify places in the news Create an illustration to go with a story Use sports scores for math problems Study careers in journalism Write a summary of a lead story Find spelling words Create word collages from themes Interview a reporter Write your own obit (for older students) Using weather pages, create charts and graphs Identify parts of speech Write a news item for a school event (spaghetti dinner/sporting event/drama event) Give students hypothetical amount of $ and let them make purchases from the classified ads. Also using the classifieds, have students choose a vehicle or pet and write a first-person narrative about why this is such a great bargain Have fun with all these wonderful ideas ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Marilyn D.
