DEAR EVERYONE: I saw the message about posting Hits and thought that that one might have been aimed at me. I was waiting until I did not receive any more messages before I posted the hits--and also, I'm tangled up in two new projects so I apologize for the delay but I thank everyone for sharing so abundantly!! Your time is as valuable as mine and that's what makes your replies so generous!! At 02:55 PM 9/9/96 CST, you wrote: >HI AGAIN! > >Has anyone ever held a "Murder in the Library?" Donna Walters > > Murder Mystery: everyone seemed to like this idea and many had tried it. I did not receive ideas on how to publicize, refreshements, etc.---that wasn't the question I had asked. So I can't help you with that yet. I asked for ideas/ places to get scripts. And here are the replies I got (bear with me---I'm learning this copy/paste business): I did it for years in my elementary school building. Alas I wrote my own script (wouldn't you have to for an individual collection) based upon one I had received from another librarian. Usually I did it the first week after Christmas break until the year our beloved custodian died over the break. It was a little harder to make fun of a death (real or not) after that. Carol Harma, Springfield, OR charma@efn.org last year's VOYA, I think it was last year. There was an article about doing a murder mystery in the library. (I haven't nailed that one down yet---but I plan to. Donna) Carrie Eldridge faxed me a 21 page script with questions, motive sheet, etc. It's a great script!!! Thanks for sharing Carrie!! Wayne Rush, librarian at a Middle School, wrote several murder mysteries as library skill units and did a murder mystery for his state convention. (I did not include Wayne's address, etc. as I feel it is up to him to offer to this group to share his scripts if he desires to). A gentleman from Iowa State University sent me a script---a good one-- that they have used and as I write it, his name and the two people he recommended contacting are at home sitting on my bedside table where I left them after I read them---I'll be sending him a thank you note so I apologize for not being able to give his name! Two people wrote and told me about people they knew who had written scripts. Again, Idon't feel I can give their names out without their permission. By and far, most scripts were self written. Maybe we should start a public script here on the net and each of us can add to it as we have time and after we've thought about it!!! What do you think?? The joint brain power would be tremendous!! We could either utilize generic staff or students for the characters. and maybe tie it into internet somehow and then see if we can get it published in a magazine like "Book Report" with authorship and credit to the LM_NET Listserv.
