I posted the target question about two weeks ago asking if anyone had or recommended a camera like the xapshot. Basically, we wanted to be able to take candids of students and drop them into our school announcements. Copied here are the responses I received. And I thank everyone. You can see the Casio QV-10 is what most people have and like. The Quick Time also. Thanks again to all who responded. Sincerely, Donna Walters We have purchased the Casio QV-10 for all schools. It is easy to use-you can take 96 pictures before downloading to computer or putting on video. The software is easy to use and you can download into either a Mac or Windows PC. Hope this helps. Connie Champlin Metropolitian School District of Pike Township Indianapolis, IN> I was in a workshop this summer where we used both the QuickTake 150 and the Casio QV-10. The Casio is by far the better, faster, cheaper camera. The QV-30 is more expensive but also comes with a telephoto lense. They will do what you need them for and for either platform, too. Clarence Grimm Media Specialist Buchanan Elem. Schools Buchanan, MI We LOVE our new Quick Take. Used to have the Xap Shot. It is easy to operate and the quality of pictures is okay. Children and staff enjoy including photos of today's activities in newsnotes home. Catherine Beyers Southern Bluffs Elem. La Crosse cbeyers@sdlax.k12.wi.us have a Casio QV-10, and have successfully put pictures from it into PowerPoint presentations. It's a nifty little camera, and invaluable in what I do. Carol Mann Simpson csimpson@tenet.edu Facilitator - Library Technology 214 882-7450 Mesquite (TX) Independent School District Donna, We have two Casio QV 10's. I find them pretty easy to use. The one with the computer kit has both pc and mac disks. Lyn Anderson Kodak Digital camera Phyllis Sigmond Lake Country School Hartland, WI 53029 I've used both the Quick Take and a Casio and liked both of them. The Casio comes with both connections for IBM or Mac. It has the wide viewfinder on the back that is easy to use. The casio plugs directly into the serial port on your computer. The only think I'm not sure about is if the Quick Take is IBM compatible. I think it is, but you'd have to make sure. But I think either are a good investment. Terri Whitehead Indiana Dept. of Education Rm 229, State House Indianapolis, IN 46204 twhitehd@doe.state.in.us We have an Apple Quicktake but I wanted something more like the Xapshot - one that would hold more shots - better quality. We just purchased the Kodak DC50 zoom digital camera and like it very much. I also purchased a memory card to go with it (it slips into the camera) and allows you to take more pictures. The camera will take 7 - 22 without the card - up to 50 with it. It does not use a floppy disk like the Xapshot. It downloads the pictures into the computer like the Quicktake does. It comes with both Mac and Windows connectors and software. The software comes on a CDRom and the manual is on the CDRom disk - a feature I don't like! I know. I can print it out - all 124 pages! The CDRom does have Acrobat reader on it, so the electronic manual is pretty easy to read as those things go. The camera complete costs a little less than a thou. The card was, I believe, about $250, but you don't need the card. It's just nice to have. BTW, as I researched all this, I discovered that Kodak developed the Quicktake for Apple, a fact I had been unaware of. ************************************************************** Claire Simpson, Media Specialist & KidsConnect Volunteer South Valley School K-4 Moorestown NJ simpsonc@voicenet.com http://www.scils.rutgers.edu/~csimpson/claire.html ************************************************************** * "We are drowning in information but starved for knowledge."* * ~John Naisbitt * **************************************************************
