Have you looked at Ebsco's Middle Search? I used CD Newsbank for several years and finally dropped it because of the cost and the lack of use from middle school students. When they tried to search for something it would turn up everything with that word in it and it was an uphill struggle to teach them to discard the things that were not relevant.
