title of chess book from 1900

I received a request from a staff member for the title of book published
some time ago, perhaps as early as 1900, that taught chess strategy  and
linked that to how to live life.  We do not know the title or author but
believe it is still being published.  Does anyone know the title/author
or have suggested addresses or web sites that could give us more information?

Thank you!  (Some how this seems like a particularly challenging request...)
