I don't know if this will help or not, but INDEX TO POETRY FOR CHILDREN AND
YOUNG PEOPLE, 1988-1992 by Blackburn has that first line quoted and author
unknown. Says it can be found in the book
Cole, J. and Calmenson, S., comps. The Eentsy, Weentsy Spider: Finger
Plays and Action Rhymes. Morrow 1991 (k-2)

Subject: Help!  Poem identity crisis

I have a small reference collection which has not a single good poetry
index. I need to know if the following poem is authored and copyrighted,
or is it anonymous and public? And while you're at it, could you
recommend ONE really good children's poetry index, preferable one that
actually contains well-known lines from the poems? Thanks!

Way up high in an apple tree
Two red apples smiled at me.
So I shook that tree
as hard as I could;
Down came the apples.
Mmmm, they were good.

Please reply soon!  TIA
