If you are getting a summer reading list together, I would highly recommend
anything by Barbara Kingsolver.  Just saw _High Tide in Tucson_ mentioned on
this listserv, but her novels are also terrific reading.  Also, if you work
in an elementary school, read Bailey White's _Mama Makes Up Her Mind (and
other disasters of Southern living)_.  You will find it hilarious!
