7th & 8th summer reading

Greetings to all -

I'm in need of ideas for this summer's required reading list for rising
7th and 8th graders. I need titles and what grade for which you think it
best.

I'd like a nice variety (i.e. fantasy, sports, scifi, romance,
adventure), so all the kids will find at  least two that they would like
to read.  Two will be required for evaluation when they return to school
in the Fall.

Thank you in advance for helping me.  I love this listserve - the ideas
have been wonderful for me, a new librarian.

PS: For summer reading for us, I must plug Barbara Kingsolver, Jane
Austen - always, and Mary Wesley(sp? or Wessley) - whom I consider Jane
might be if she lived today!
