Dear Colleagues: Here is Part 2 of my HIT on Curriculum Mapping: In addition this colleague sent me via snail mail some National Library Power Program documents for collaborative planning and a copy of her what her current curriculum map looks like. I'm impressed and very appreciative. Another very generous LM_NET colleague from Colorado sent me via snail mail a copy of her curriculum mapping data collection worksheet. The focus of the questionnaire is to find out as much as possible about the assignment in order to facilitate research and to provide good service. Another respondent indicated that she uses Eisenberg and Berkowitz's data collection worksheet when collaborating with teachers. Here's another account of how curriculum mapping takes place in Texas: > In regards to curriculum mapping: Last year the specialists in our > elementary school (art, music, library) each took two of the grades a six > weeks and conferred with the grade about what was being studied during > the six weeks. The specialists met again and added their notes to a > master map plan. The purpose of the map was to aid the specialists in > integrating with the curriculum. This curriculum map was not very > detailed-a rough outline of topics. > > This year a technology vertical team (rather than specialists team) with > a representative from each grade level meets to create an overview of > what is being studied in our school each six weeks. The purpose of this > team is to see where and how technology is being used in the curriculum. > > curriculum mapping if done correctly can be time consuming. However, the > variation we used has still been very helpful to our specialists. All together I had nine responses to my TARGET. Five of those responses were requests for a HIT, so I know there is interest in the topic. I am very thankful that there are some veterans out there willing to share their knowledge and experience. I certainly have learned much from the responses I received. I will be posting HIT Parts 3-4 that include some notes I have made for a brief talk about curriculum mapping and an annotated bibliography. I hope these will prove helpful to others interested in this topic.
