School Library Media Specialist at San Mateo County Office of Education Full-time (220 days per year) Deadline to apply: 5/9/97 Begins 7/1/97 PRODECURE FOR APPLYING: - Completed application form (obtained from the Human Resources Office) - Detailed resume - Three letters of recommendation to: San Mateo County Office of Education Human Resources Office 101 Twin Dolphin Drive Redwood City, CA 94065-1064 (415) 802-5380 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: - California Library Media Teacher Services credential or any valid California credential authorizing library services - Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science - Three or more years experience as a school library media specialist or librarian DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Provide assistance to schools and districts in establishing libraries, selecting materials, evaluating programs, and training personnel. - Provide instruction directly to students in local districts in the areas of reading enrichment and information literacy as requested. - Provide leadership in the use of Internet in school library media centers and integration of the Internet into curriculum. - Coordinate and provide direction and support in the area of school library technology and instructional materials. - Assist in maintaining the San Mateo Educational Resources Center (SMERC) Library Web page with current information on school library programs. - Design and present in-service programs for library media teachers, teachers, administrators, library aides and volunteers. - Advise library media teachers and administrators on technology for school libraries. - Coordinate the countywide Reading is Fundamental Project. - Provide up-to-date information to school library media teachers and administrators on learning resources, library legislation, professional meetings, and new materials. - Create and maintain collaborative working relationships with district/school staffs, appropriate public or private agencies, and community organizations to promote literacy and school library programs. - Perform other related duties as assigned.
