I have not had much time lately to read LM_net mail but my son, who is married to a Hindu woman, answered by forwarded request about Hindi with the following: house = ghar door = darwasa (pron. dervaza) chair = kursi window = kirki car = gari road = rasta dog = kutta I don't know the word for desk. The problem is that seeing them written in roman script doesn't tell you how to pronounce them. Nor does it show how they're written even, so it's kind of a pointless exersize. Perhaps this might help the person who posted the question. N_Bergeron@mentor.unh.edu
