Netters: A new YA author has hit the scene with a bang! Wendelin Van Draanen has penned her first novel published by HarperCollins titled "How I survived being a girl" and it's a "sure-fire winner". Although the novel is written for ages 8-12, anyone who has fond memories of a particular summer during their pre-teen years will enjoy this read. "Carolyn" takes you through the trials and tribulations of a 12-year-old girl growing up in a family of all boys and her desparate need for acceptance. The novel is sprinkled with humor and wit with a dash of philosphy and you'll find yourself laughing out loud all through the novel. A delightful read! Ms. Van Draanen also has a mystery series soon to be published by Random House. Tonia Jetter, Librarian St. Joseph High School Santa Maria, California
