I am planning to develop a new "Early Reader" or "Easy Reader" section in my K-3 library. I will be removing these readers from the "Easy" section to make it easier for 1st & 2nd graders to locate materials they can read themselves. I am looking for suggestions for making this monumental task a bit easier -- ideas for labeling, assigning reading level, etc. I will be using Fountas & Pennell's book - "Guided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children" as a source for identifying reader levels but this book does not list many of the books in our collection. Are there other good resources for identifying reading level. Have any of you developed a section like this -- any pitfalls I should avoid? I'm fairly new to LM_NET and have been very impressed with the help you give one another, above and beyond your daily workload. Will post a hit if there is interest.
