As always, LM_NET came through with my request for electronic searching lessons on the net. Here are the suggestions I received. - try the 15 minute series, an extensive set of net lessons in html or powerpoint formats. they may have something http://rs.internic.net/nic-support/15min/ - I attended a really great seminar entitled "Using the Internet as an Effective Teaching Tool" By Joanne Troutner that was put on by the Bureau of Education and Research. They provided us with a fantastic workbook of handouts and worksheets that allow students to compare search engine and check material from the Internet for validity. I don't know if they would just sell you the notebook without attending the seminar, put I will provide you with the address. Bureau of Education & Research 915 118th Avenue SE PO Box 96068 Bellevue, WA 98009 (800)735-3503 - Try http://www.findspot.com It lists many search engines and provides helpful tips to use with each. I think it is a great site. Hope this helps. - Some things I've found... http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~brcoll/search_engines.htm - Searching with style http://www.cnet.com/Content/Reviews/Compare/Search/index.html - CNET where to find anyhthing on the Net http://www.cnet.com/Resources/Tech/Advisers/Search/index.html - list of steps http://www.cnet.com/Resources/Tech/Advisers/Search/search3.html - Boolean searching http://www.cnet.com/Resources/Tech/Advisers/Search/search4.html - part 4 of above http://www.askanexpert.com/askanexpert/ - ask an expert - I have recently put up a slide show about searching and have some links to great essays by others on the topic. http://www.capecod.net/schrockguide/ - I have on my web page in the first section at the top of the Stay and Search page a tutorial I did in Powerpoint which is on Search Strategies. It takes quite awhile to load as they are colorful gifs, but teachers have told me it is very helpful in teaching how to search. You might want to check it out for possible use by those students. HTH Web Page: <http://www.gwi.net/brhs/> fdaley@saturn.caps.maine.edu - I went to a workshop at AASL in Portland and got these websites: http://milton.mse.jhu.edu:8001/research/education/net.html http://www.iat.unc.edu/guides/irg-49.html They're both excellent. _
