Yesterday my principal noticed a burning smell around her new computer that had just been installed the day before. The computer was not turned on but was plugged in to a surge protector. The school board electricians were installing a new outlet in the office at the time. The office copy machine will not work either after this incident. The service technician said he had never seen anything like that before but he mentioned that even when a computer was turned off, it was in a sleep mode. I knew that the battery always kept the time, date, and settings correct but didn't know that when you shut down a computer it was still on. The computer technician at the community college library where my husband is library director said he had never seen anything like that either. Has anyone else had such an experience? I unplug my home computer from the electrical outlet and telephone line when I'm not home and my school computers at the end of the day. We are just fortunate that it happened when someone was there and not in the middle of the night. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Madeline L.
