Reading comprehension skills

I am looking for some ideas for teaching comprehension to middle school
students (6th-8th grades).  Iowa scores have fallen in this area and I
would like to collaborate with the language arts teachers to turn this
trend around.  Do any of you good folks have any ideas?  TIA!  ;-)
