German for "Hello" is literally "Hallo", but "Guten Tag" (meaning literally 'good day') is frequently heard instead and is a more suitable expression. Japanese has no true equivalent for hello, so "Konnichi wa" (meaning 'good day' as well) is used instead. I've been enlightened by a friend of mine that in Pharci (sp?), the language used in Iran, it's "Shalom." That help? Hope so. Please post a HIT when finished - I'd love to see the responses.
