TARGET: NYT's letter to editor

Help! Sometime in the past year (Sept 96 to Feb 97) a man in Brooklyn
 named Peter Leven...something wrote a fabulous letter to the editor of
 the New York Times regarding children learning by manipulating things
 like clay and art as opposed sitting at a computer keyboard. I had it
as an FYI in my old school and no longer have it.  DO YOU? Please let me
know:
