ubject: GEN: Freedom of Information Act

rom owner-lm_net@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Wed Dec 17 00:17:33 1997
My co-worker would like to see the exact wording of the Freedom of Information
Act. At least I think that is the name. She wants the Federal act that
states one's library records are private and no one can see them other than
the person and the librarian for library purposes. We are having a discussion
with our principal about it and would like to have the text of the law in
hand. A book or web site in which to find it would be much appreciated.

TIA,

Subject: GEN: Internet Use Policies

Dear LM_Netters,

My school will finally be getting the Internet in January. The students are
going to be signing acceptable use policies along with their parents. Our
school needs to be able to tell who has had the form signed and who has not.
What are you doing in your libraries so that you know the users are allowed to
be there? My idea is to place a sticker on their IDs of some sort and when
they sit down, they down, they place the ID in clear pouch that we can see at
a glance. Has this worked for anybody? What are your ways to tackle this
problem?

TIA
