Calendar tracking program needed

Our school would like to keep track of available (and needed) substitute
teachers on our ethernet network. Our district uses Macintosh computers.
What recommendation would you have for a calendar/database program that
would allow us to enter from multiple Mac workstations the dozens of absent
teachers/needed subs daily.  Of course, we need to set up an entire school
year in order to enter planned absences such as workshops, seminars, etc.

Any suggestions from people who have been there and done that successfully
would be appreciated!
