I'm about to orignal catalog two sets of materials. One is a "teacher's
set" consiting of 3 books. Two paperback and one hardcover. The Title is
the same for all three books but 1 paper back is the student's workbook,
and the other is the teacher's guide. The "story book" has the same two
authors S.M and J.C but the teacher's guide and student work book have
J.C. and S.M. Of course, in the resource center, I want to keep all three
books together so I am going to catalog these by title as the main entry.
not too big a deal, hmmm?

The other set is a bunch of video tapes. I'm not sure whether ti call it
a set or not. They all have the same 'series' title BUT many differences
abound. First of all, there are two versions for every tape: either
American Sign Language edition OR Manually Coded English edition. And the
tapes look identical! But close inspection shows that the ASL version has
one different story than the MCE edition. Second of all, the first tape,
for reading to toddlers, has the designation vo. 1. But the second and
third tapes for reading to k-1 and 2-3 year olds have the designation Set2
and Set 3. I've written to the co. and they have no other videos in this
'series'. I would again like to keep all the videos together on the
shelves but don't see how this would be possible. If we catalog as a
series, how will we be able to list each individual story title ? the
first tape has 6 stories (5 in the MCE version) and the amt. of time
differs on them. The next tapes have 2 stories each. What happens if we
catalog as an open series and the producer adds 10 more tapes to it? How
will we be able to search under each story title? To do each individually
would make it a labor intensive time consuming task that will NOT keep
them together. Should we catalog by the producer as the main entry for
each one?

HELP?!!!

ps: tapes 2 and 3 also come in MCE and ASL versions but the stories are
the same in both. the time for eac h tape does vary by about 5 minutes
between versions.
