The role of the LMS is perhaps less being redefined than clarified to
ensure that the intermediary role envisioned by Kathy Brock (and
about which she has written eloquently) is supported, infused and
entrenched in school programs. We need greater focus on collaboration
to ensure that the information skills and strategies essential to
problem-solving and decision-making in a democracy are a part of
every student's repertoire: this is where we have greatest inpact on
student achievement. Collaboration, of course, is best realized in
work environments that value
it and where principals ensure that it happens. Our new guidelines
and standards, if implemented well, should move us forward in this
regard.
