I am in a large high school with a collection of about 28,000 books. I estimate that 80% of the collection has the bar codes placed in the inside of the back cover. It takes us two months to do inventory working everyday. I know that the time would be cut in half if I rebarcoded. I have seen info about a product put out by InData it is a portable battery operated bar code maker. The cost is about $3000. It can be leased also. I have some good parent volunteers and some bright student assistants. It seems to make sense to take the bar code maker to the shelves and that this method would be so much more efficient. If I order bar codes there would be some waste... Has anyone out there done this and lived to tell about. All suggestions will be considered and I'll post a hit. TIA.
