I recently posted a question regarding the purchase of the print version of SIRS Researcher as well as the full-text CD. The over- whelming consensus was to eliminate the print version and purchase only the full-text CD. Some of the reasons given were "maintenance of notebooks too hard & too expensive", "no theft with CD", "print takes up too much space", "accessing info is easier on CD", & "CD is always current". However, the main consideration in eliminating the print version seems to be the number of workstations....can the number of work- stations available meet the students' demand without having the print as an alternative? If only a small number of workstations are available (or only stand-alones rather than network), it might be justified to purchase both versions if funds are available. Some interesting suggestions were "order only notebooks for topics that are used most often" & "keep old notebooks since CD doesn't go back that far". Another interesting comment was that a SIRS salesman had indicated that the print version will be phased out soon--I haven't checked with my rep about this, but that may decide this issue for us! Anyway, thanks so much for all of your comments. I feel much better about my decision to stop subscribing to the print version.
