Keyboard Computers Alpha-Type?

I've seen a type of computer/keyboard advertised in a couple of places...was
wondering if anyone has used one...problems?  The keyboard will hold text
only, then it is plugged into a computer, the computer reads the text into a
program such as WordPerfect, where it can be edited, etc.  For $250.00 this
sure sounds cheaper than sending home laptops.  Does it work?
