ELEM, Target: Women in Tall Tales?

A third grade teacher came to me asking about tall tales that feature
women. I first thought of Annie Oakley and Calamity Jane, but realized
their stories were not tall tales. The teacher has several that feature
men (Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Mike Fink, Casey Jones), but none of women.

Does anyone have any suggestions for tall tales of women? I searched
through CMG and found a short article in an issue of Cricket magazine
(March 96), that has a story from Ohio. I've also searched our issues of
_Mailbox_ and _Copycat_ looking for a Tall Tale unit which might have had
suggestions, but no luck.I did find a book, however, called "Cut from the
same Cloth: American Women of Myth, Legend and Tall Tale" (c1993). Will
plan to order it with my Spring book order.
