Just to offer an opposing viewpoint, I feel this series is not worthwhile
and I would particularly not use it as a read aloud.  The Revolutionary
title that you mention is rather slow going and the Civil War title has
some very objectionable parts, IMHO.  If anyone wants further details of
specific criticisms of this series, I would be happy to email you privately.
